RTU

The MultiSmart pump station manager is the new face of technology, combining the functionality of an RTU, a PLC, a pump controller, various control panel components, and a user interface.

This makes the MultiSmart a very powerful product with a high level of existing functionality - ideal for water & wastewater lift station or pump stations.

However, the MultiSmart can also be purchased just as an RTU. Physically the product is packaged the same way - an IO unit which includes a host processor & communications board, a DSP board for processing IO at high speed, and IO cards. Plus a display.

RTU - Pump Station Manager

RTU I/O

The I/O design of MultiSmart makes this an ideal water RTU or wastewater RTU.

A standard RTU usually has contact closure digital inputs (DINs). The DINs in the MultiSmart RTU can be configured as contact closures or high speed counters, but in addition can be configured to directly measure:

  • conductive level sensors
  • seal sensors
  • PTC thermistors
  • Flygt FLS and CLS sensors

This cuts cost and complexity in a control panel.

The MultiSmart RTU I/O also measures 3-phase voltage (direct phase to phase up to 600v) and 3-phase currents (direct from 5A CTs). And because of the high speed DSP processor (a separate processor is used for the communications and application program) the voltage and current measurements are used to accurately calculate:

  • power, KW
  • power factor
  • apparent power, KVA
  • energy, KWHr
  • apparent energy, KVAH

Of course the MultiSmart RTU also includes standard 4-20mA AINs, 4-20mA AOUTs, and DOUTs along with the configurable DINs.

DNP3 & Modbus Communications

The MultiSmart includes two open protocols - Modbus and DNP3.

DNP3 is an ideal protocol for remote telemetry. Modbus is an ideal protocol for communicating with other intelligent control panel components (e.g. a VFD or a soft starter).

The MultiSmart RTU is powerful and flexible, so allows multiple masters and slaves to be configured.

For example, in a radio communications network where some sites are not able to communicate directly with a repeater, they might communicate through another RTU. That RTU would have a master (to talk to the station with comms problems), and a slave (to talk to the SCADA system).

To find out more about the capabilities of this product as a water or wastewater RTU, read more about MultiSmart, view the I/O specifications, or request a demo from one of our technical staff.

Full Lift Station Control

The MultiSmart Pump Station Manager, incorporates 100s of lift station functions, along with an intuitive user-interface.

MultiSmart Intuitive Operator Interface

Commissioning a new station requires no programming, although there is an optional IEC61131-3 PLC enhancement if special features are required.
