Scottish Water’s Innovations Group has commissioned a demonstration rig with which to evaluate a new hosted SCADA solution using the Multitrode MultiSmart™ pump station manager and Trihedral’s VTScada® monitoring & control software. “The intention is to demonstrate the state of the art SCADA technology by providing a portable self-contained rig that can be connected to live I/O in minutes and make that data available from almost anywhere,” says Trihedral’s Keith Donaldson.

As countless numbers of municipalities are faced with cutbacks and reduced budgets, they are seeking smarter, more intelligent ways to manage rising electricity costs and submersible pump efficiency issues for their waste water collection systems. Currently submersible pumps consume a considerable amount of all the electricity used in municipal waste water applications, and during a pumps lifetime it will use roughly several times the initial purchase price of the pump in electricity. In addition while the need and cost of power is increasing, municipalities are also seeking alternatives to the traditional PLC/RTU combo that is generally unable to monitor flow, power usage, insulation resistance, hours run, voltage, current, and phased power, without hours of costly programming, integration fees, and various pieces of equipment.
