MultiSmart has an optional Power & Energy Module which, in conjunction with the Flow Module, provides the CO2-Friendly capability of pump efficiency monitoring.
MultiSmart directly measures the 3-phase supply (no signal conditioning required) and the 3-phase currents for each pump. With high speed I/O processing, the unit calculates kW, kVA, power factor, kWHr and kVAH.
The I/O processor is a separate board from the "Host Processor" board which manages the comms and high level control and monitoring. This eliminates the problems of many RTUs which, in practice, struggle to run a comprehensive high level application and also capture high speed I/O.
All of this valuable pump and station data is available to SCADA through the open protocol RTU module, eliminating integration costs.
The Motor Protection Module has many additional features:
-
Over-Current Protection - protects the pump against locked rotor or blocked pump
-
Under-Current Protection - protects the pump against loss of pressure from an impellor falling off or a pipe bursting
-
Phase Fail - protects the motor against current imbalances in the windings
-
Ground/Earth Fault - protects the motor against current leakages from winding breakdown
-
Phase Rotation - protects the pump against a reversal of the motor
All of these faults are available to SCADA - reducing operations cost significantly. With detailed faults data, an organization can send the right person to the site. Even better, remote fault reset and remote pump control is built into the product and communications - often eliminating the need to send someone to the site at all!
The Power & Energy Module also provides a "meggering" function, measuring of the insulation resistance in the motor windings daily or weekly.
The leading cause of pump and motor failure is breakdown of the insulation in the windings. Many organizations have an electrician visit Pump Stations every 3-6 months to do a manual check. This features automatically measures the value and makes it available over SCADA as well as on the MultiSmart screen. Additionally, an alarm or pump fault can be set at a user-defined threshold. For example, the pump can be held out when the threshold is reached, or a "display-only" fault can be created, which allows the pump to run while displaying warning flag.
